Mo Tom prepares for next big race

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Mo Tom was back on the track, Sunday, for his first workout since winning the Lecomte Stakes.

According to a release from the New Orleans Fair Grounds, Mo Tom worked a nice half-mile in 48.20 for trainer Tom Amoss.

Amoss indicated that he was pleased with the drill and that the dark bay colt is on course for the second of three Fair Grounds Kentucky Derby preps – the Risen Star Stakes on February 20th.

Now a two-time stakes winner, Mo Tom also won the $80,000 Street Sense Stakes on Nov. 1 at Churchill Downs over G M B Racing-owned and Dallas Stewart-trained Tom's Ready. The two horses are owned by Gayle Benson, the wife of Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson, and each once again filled out the exacta in the Lecomte.

They are both being aimed for a fourth meeting in the Risen Star, according to their respective conditioners.
