HOUMA, LA (WVUE) - Montegut man was arrested and charged in connection with the theft of cash and checks from a local business.
In November 2015, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office began investigating a burglary of the Texaco Credit Union on North Hollywood Road.
Credit union managers told authorities that someone broke in and stole customers' payments in both cash and checks.
Last week, TPSO detectives learned that the checks stolen from the credit union had been altered and deposited into an account.
The owner of that account was identified as Tyler Ledet, 21, of 690 Hwy 665 in Montegut.
Ledet was questioned by detectives and subsequently admitted to burglarizing the business, altering the stolen checks and depositing them into his personal checking account.
Ledet then purchased several material items including a truck, jewelry and cellular phones. The total value of altered checks Ledet is accused of stealing was more than $13,000.
Ledet was arrested and charged with one count of business burglary, five counts of forgery and one count of bank fraud.
Authorities are in the process of seizing the items that Ledet purchased with the stolen funds.
Ledet's bond was set at $50,000.
He remains at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex.
