Dutchtown offensive lineman flips to LSU on signing day

(WVUE) -

There's a reason they call them verbal commitments, they're non-binding. South Carolina learned that this morning. Dutchtown offensive lineman Lloyd Cushenberry flipped his commitment from the Gamecocks to LSU this morning.

Nola.com/Times-Picayune recruiting expert Jimmy Smith broke the story.

Smith wrote: "The one-time South Carolina commitment received an offer late Tuesday evening, after a calculated recruitment from LSU leading up to National Signing Day. The 6-3, 310-pound Dutchtown notified Mississippi State, the school he was intending on signing with Wednesday morning."

Smith also pointed out he had some help in the decision: "Another late addition to LSU's class showed off his leadership skills and recruiting ability in Zachary quarterback Lindsey Scott Jr. The lone quarterback in LSU's class was on the phone with Cushenberry to do his part in persuading his former high school teammate to join him in the Tigers recruiting class."
