DESTREHAN, LA (WVUE) -

Harry Hurst Middle School and the Eastbank Headstart Center in Destrehan were on soft lockdown Thursday morning, according to the schools.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office asked the schools to take the precaution as they search for a person of interest.

A soft lockdown means that no one can enter or leave the schools, but students and faculty are free to move around inside the campuses.

Hurst was scheduled for early dismissal at 11:15 a.m., but dismissal had been pushed back once the sheriff's office contacted the school.

The sheriff's office did not elaborate on why they were looking for the person of interest.

The soft lockdown was lifted around noon.
