LPSO deputy arrested for sexual battery on juvenile

LAFOURCHE PARISH, LA (WVUE) - A Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Deputy was terminated from his job after he was arrested for committing sexual battery on a juvenile. Trent Barrilleaux, 29, of Thibodaux was taken into custody late Friday night.

According to police, detectives learned on Wednesday that Barrilleaux asked another deputy what types of behavior would be considered inappropriate with a juvenile. The next day, a complaint was filed with the LPSO in reference to the juvenile. While being questioned, Barrileaux admitted that there were multiple occasions where he would engage in inappropriate sexual contact with the victim.

Barrilleaux was booked on two counts of sexual battery (forcible fondling) and his bond was set at $100,000.

"The announcement of this arrest comes with much dismay and utter disappointment, but we have always been upfront with the public in matters such as this," Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre said. "We want to assure the public and the family of the victim that we will do our part to ensure this individual will be held accountable for his egregious actions."

Barrilleaux spent more than six years with the LPSO, where he was a mechanic with fleet operations. He also previously worked as a bailiff and patrol deputy.
