NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - A man was arrested Tuesday in a fatal hit-and-run in Mid-City.
Brian Gray, 38, was booked with vehicular homicide in the death of a 50-year-old woman. The name of the victim is being withheld pending the notification of family members. The incident took place in the 3000 block of Canal Street.
At approximately 3:10 p.m., police said Gray was traveling lake-bound on Canal Street in his Ford Escape when he struck the woman as she was crossing the street. Police said after Gray struck the victim, he fled the scene.
The woman was taken to the hospital, where she died.
Officers located Gray in a parking lot at the intersection of South Carrollton and Tulane avenues. He was taken into custody and transported for testing, where his blood alcohol content was found to be .172. He was then booked into Central Lock up.
The Orleans Parish Coroner will release the victim's name and will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
