NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The New Orleans Police Department placed a recruit on emergency suspension, after his arrest early Wednesday morning involving several traffic violations, including a DWI.
According to a new release, NOPD Seventh District officers were working a traffic accident just before 1:30 a.m., when they saw a driver in a 2007 Nissan Altima trying to get around the blocked off area on I-10 East at Louisa. The driver was later identified as Gerald Elwood, III. Police say Elwood tested positive for alcohol consumption over the legal limit, but did not give specifications.
Elwood is a member of Recruit Class #175, which had started training in December.
The department's Public of Integrity Bureau is in charge of the on-going investigation.
