Benson's horses stay in the hunt for Kentucky Derby

(WVUE) - Three big races around the country in the past week, rewarded horses for their wins with big point bonuses in the Kentucky Derby standings.

Wins by other thoroughbreds meant GMB Racing's Mo Tom and Tom's Ready, dropped in the points race, but are still in the top 20.

Mo Tom is currently tenth in the Derby standings with 12 points. He received 10 for his win in the Lecomte, and two for his third place finish in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes in 2015.

Tom's Ready is barely holding on to his top 20 spot, sitting in 19th place. The thoroughbred gained four points for his second-place finish in the Lecomte.

Mo Tom and Tom's Ready will next run in the Risen Star Stakes at the Fair Grounds Race Course next Saturday, February 20th.

GMB is owned by Gayle Benson, wife of New Orleans Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson.

The leader in the Kentucky Derby standings is Nyquist with 30 points. The Derby takes place May 7th in Louisville, Kentucky.
