LSU loses sole possession of first place in SEC

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

LSU went into their matchup with South Carolina as the sole leader in the SEC standings. They left Columbia with a loss, and their overall lead, falling 94-83 to the Gamecocks.

Super freshman Ben Simmons played limited time in the first half due to foul trouble, only mustering five points in the half. He finished with 20 points in the contest.

South Carolina was paced by Sindarius Thornwell's 24 points. The Gamecocks are ranked 20th in the country, according to the Coaches Poll.

South Carolina, Kentucky, and LSU are now tied for the SEC lead with 8-3 records.

LSU returns to the court Saturday at home against Texas A&M.
