TERREBONNE PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Terrebonne Parish detectives arrested a Bourg man they say stole and forged checks for months to support his heroin habit.
Sheriff Jerry Larpenter says 39-year-old Richard Prosperie Jr. forged more than $6,700 in checks written to businesses in Terrebonne Parish between October 2015 and mid-January. Detectives arrested Prosperie on Wednesday night and booked him with 22 counts of forgery.
When questioned, investigators say Prosperie admitted to stealing and forging the checks. They say he told them he had a heroin addiction and needed the money to support his habit. Prosperie remains in custody on a $15,000 bond.
