SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) -

State Police say a man died after crashing his motorcycle as he was trying to pass another vehicle.

Troopers say 54-year-old David Loder Jr. crashed his motorcycle near Bayou Liberty Road and Kimberly Lane in Slidell just after 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

They say Loder was driving at a high rate of speed as he attempted to pass another vehicle on the right shoulder. Troopers say as Loder passed the vehicle, his motorcycle ran off the right side of the road, went into a ditch, and struck a culvert.

State Police say Loder was ejected. Even though he was wearing a helmet, he was severely injured. Troopers say he died at the hospital.
