NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans pushed through Fat Tuesday, feasting on the last bit of king cake, carnival food and beverages.
Now is a time when many people in the region give up something they like for the Lenten season. That can be food in many cases.
But for some of the faithful, not eating meat on Fridays means eating fried seafood.
Did you know a fried shrimp poboy is about 830 calories, 45 grams of fat and 60 grams of carbohydrates, according to Nola.com. A broiled 8 oz. New York strip is only 600 calories with 38 grams of fat.
It's choices like these put New Orleans in Mensfitness.com's fattest cities in America list.
For the first time in three years, the publication put out its list.
Since the last one, nearly 34% of American adults are now obese. And the number of states with an obesity rate above 30% grew from six to 12.
