Hammond man dies following motorcycle accident

HAMMOND, LA (WVUE) -

Louisiana State Police are investigating a motorcycle accident that left a Hammond man dead. The incident occurred Saturday morning on the Interstate 55 East Service Road at mile post 28.4 in Hammond. The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Charlie Carner.

Police say that Carner was driving a motorcycle on the service road when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle drove off of the right side of the roadway in a curve. The motorcycle then proceeded down an embankment before striking a guardrail support beam.

The impact caused Garner to be thrown from the motorcycle. Carner, who was wearing a US D.O.T. approved helmet at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead on the scene. Investigators do not know if impairment was a factor in the crash and toxicology test results are pending.

Police continue to investigate the crash.
