LSU Baseball Coach Paul Mainieri sets opening weekend rotation

BATON ROUGE, LA (WVUE) -

LSU Baseball Coach Paul Mainieri revealed his weekend rotation when the Tigers open against Cincinnati on Friday.

No surprises on Friday's and Saturday's starters as Jared Poche and Alex Lange will take the mound. Both established themselves as two of the top pitchers in the country.

It was Sunday that was still a big question mark. Mainieri told NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune, senior transfer John Valek would get the nod on Sunday.

Mainieri told NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune, "I think everybody knew Poche and Lange were going to throw the first two games; it was just matter of which order. I think John Valek has gone out and earned it. He's pitched very well. He's a strike-thrower and knows how to mix his pitches."

In three years at Akron, Valek sported a 16-17 record for the Zips. Akron shut down their baseball program, giving Valek the opportunity to transfer and play right away.
