(WVUE/CNN) -

The newest species of tarantula has been named after the "man in black" himself, singer Johnny Cash.

Chris Hamilton and colleagues from Auburn University and Millsaps College studied more than a 1,000 spiders from 12 states. They say they've found 14 new species of tarantulas.

Scientists say the Johnny Cash tarantula is black and can be found near a California prison that was the topic of the country singer's famous song "Folsom Prison Blues."

The team of researchers say the number of tarantula species in the U.S. is now 29, including the 14 new ones they just discovered.
