NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

A man who was shot Uptown early on Jan. 20 near the intersection of Tchoupitoulas and Eleonore streets has died as a result of his injuries, according to the Orleans Parish coroner.

The New Orleans Police Department said around 6 a.m., someone shot 43-year-old Richard Melcher in the 200 block of Eleonore Street. The department initially reported the victim's wife told police he left their house that morning to go the store.

Orleans Parish Coroner Dr. Jeffrey Rouse's office released a statement on Monday afternoon (Feb. 15) that pointed to complications from a gunshot wound leading to the death of Melcher on Feb. 1, nearly two weeks after the shooting.

Police have said an older model red Oldsmobile may be connected to the investigation.
