NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Police said a woman was fatally stabbed Monday, and the Seventh Ward home where the crime took place was set on fire.
The incident happened just before 9 p.m. in the 2400 block of Touro Street, where police responded to a domestic disturbance call.
Authorities learned that Anthony Jones, 48, was inside the residence, stabbing a 36-year-old woman.
Officers located the victim's juvenile daughter outside. She managed to escape uninjured.
Police trying to gain entry through the front door, but Jones allegedly barricaded the door with the victim and her juvenile son inside. Jones eventually let the boy leave.
As officers continued to talk to Jones, the house became engulfed in flames. They say he tried to escape through the back, but he was quickly apprehended.
Firefighters entered the home and retrieved the woman, who had been stabbed multiple times. EMS took her to the hospital, where she died.
Jones was booked into central lockup and charged with second-degree murder and two counts of cruelty to a juvenile.
