BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Officials with the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals gave legislators estimates about actions they will have to take to meet the new budget requirements.

DHH said in the best case scenario, it would cut between $64 million and $169 million from now to June 30. They explained about $6 million to $18 million of that would be slashed from Baton Rouge hospitals.

"It saddens me that we are in this situation," said state Rep. Pat Smith, D-Baton Rouge.

DHH added it will begin making cuts this week.
