NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

The NOPD is asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating a man wanted for auto theft in Mid-City.

The incident happened Feb. 14 in the parking lot of the Big Easy gas station in the 2200 block of Canal Street.

A woman said that around 4 p.m., she and her daughter were in two separate vehicles parked side by side in the store parking lot. Her daughter went into the store, leaving her car unattended with the keys in the ignition. An unknown male got into the car and tried to back out of the lot. The mother told police she immediately exited her car and tried to stop him by grabbing him through the driver’s side window.

The suspect fled the scene in the victim’s car, which contained several personal items, including her cell phone and credit cards.

The suspect was described as a white male around 5’8” tall in his mid-50s wearing a brown jacket, blue jeans, and a brown Kangol-style hat with a short beard.

The vehicle is a white 2010 Lincoln MKX, Louisiana plate ZLG573.
