NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

Orleans Parish Coroner Jeffrey C. Rouse has identified the woman fatally stabbed Monday night in a home in the 2400 block of Touro Street.

Renata Vaughn, 36, was fatally stabbed in a Seventh Ward home which was later set ablaze by the man accused of stabbing her just before 9 p.m. Monday.

Authorities say Anthony Jones, 48, stabbed Vaughn as police arrived on the scene.

Police tried to enter the house through the front door, but Jones barricaded the door with Jones’ son inside. He eventually let the boy leave.

As officers continued a dialogue, police say Jones set the house on fire and tried to escape through the back. He was quickly captured.

Firefighters entered the home and brought Vaughn out. EMS took her to the hospital, where she later died.

Jones is charged with second-degree murder and two counts of cruelty to a juvenile.
