NEW ORLEANS (WVUE)
Five days after a FOX 8 Defenders report detailed concerns over transient young people, often referred to as gutter punks, congregating in the 1100 block of Decatur in the French Quarter, the owner of a corner building takes steps to clean it up.
Chandru Motwani fixed every light that had been out at 1101 Decatur at the corner of Ursulines St., which he owns. Crews have also cleaned up most of the graffiti on the building. By phone last week, he agreed with residents' and tourists' concerns that transient youth have become more aggressive in the area.
Our report explained how the building Motwani owns has become an area where transient crowds tend to hang out. We showed graffiti, litter, and pictures of at least one person urinating on the sidewalk. Motwani promised the FOX 8 Defenders he would get the lights back on and construction would start on a restaurant that will serve Cajun cuisine on the main level.
