METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) -

Deputies arrested a couple after they left four children at home, ages 8 months to 8 years old, at home while the couple celebrated Valentine's Day.

Catherine Brumfield, 25, and Terrance Swinney, 29 were booked by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office with four counts of child desertion each. Swinney was also booked on two outstanding attachments.

Deputies received a call about the 8-year-old carrying the 8-month-old down Severn Ave. in Metairie just after 8 p.m.. The boy told deputies he was looking for his mother and father, according to the JPSO.

A deputy took the child back to his apartment in the 3500 block of North Arnoult Rd. Deputies found a 5-year-old and 3-year-old inside. They were home alone.

Brumfield and Swinney returned to the apartment around 10 p.m.

Swinney said the couple left the children at the apartment to go to the movies, investigators said.

The couple was arrested and to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. Both bonded out of jail on Monday.

Authorities turned the children to the state.
