Lifeguards needed for 2016 pool season

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Summer is right around the corner and soon swimmers will be diving into pools. The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) now has job openings for over 100 lifeguards.

Applicants must be at least 16-years-old, certified and pass a swim test. All applicants must be able to swim 300 yards and tread water for two minutes without using arms or hands.

The swim test also includes:
•    Sprint 15 yards, get a 10 lb. brick from the bottom of the deep end of the pool, swim back to the shallow end and climb out of the pool with the brick in 1 minute and 40 seconds or less.

Swim tests are given at the Treme Rec Center at 900 N. Villere Street; Sanchez Center Pool at 1616 Caffin Avenue and at Joe Brown Pool at 5601 Read Blvd. The tests will be conducted Monday through Friday  between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. or Saturdays between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. until April 9, 2016.

NORDC says the job pays $11.38/hour for 40 hour work week. Lifeguards are on duty morning, mid-day, evenings and weekends.
