Woman tied to med student's shooting proclaims innocence

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Surveillance video shows the dramatic attempted kidnapping of a woman and the shooting of the man who tried to stop it. The suspect in this case, Euric Cain, is also accused of kidnapping a couple and raping them the next night.

Cain was arrested along with Nictoria Washington, who police say helped to hide Cain from authorities.

"He's alleged to have done some terrible thing, and by all accounts, he should have his day in court. But my client continues to be dragged along in the process," attorney Gregory Carter said.

Washington's attorney says she's innocent.

"There's no evidence at all from any of these witnesses they've spoken to. The surveillance videos we've seen on the news, she's not in them. She's not alleged to have been in them," Carter said.

Carter doesn't believe Washington should have been arrested in the first place.

"She was literally 17 years old, and she was pleading with that man to turn himself in. Why? Because she was there. She was arrested, but the other people in the house were let go," Carter said.

Doctors examined Washington in jail and determined she's competent and aware of the charges against her.

"She had plans of going to Xavier. She's supported by her family. She's not been in trouble before. She's never had any issues in court before," Carter said.

He also denies that Washington and Cain were in any type of romantic relationship. Still, the two were indicted together.

While she's accused of accessory after the fact on multiple charges, Cain's charges include multiple counts of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated rape, carjacking and attempted first-degree murder.

Cain is jailed on a bond of $11.75 million. Washington remains jailed on a $400,000 bond.
