JEFFERSON PARISH, LA (WVUE) - A state trooper was hailed as a hero Friday for rescuing two women from a fiery crash on the Causeway.
Causeway Police said it happened around 1:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes just 4.5 miles from the south shore. Police said a Dodge Ram pickup truck broke down and was rear-ended by a Ford F-250. Both vehicles caught on fire.
Trooper Steven Paulus, who happened to be nearby, forced his way into the Ram and pulled the two women to safety. The women were not burned, but sustained cuts. No one in the Ford truck was hurt.
It took about an hour to put out the flames and clean up the debris.
