ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

All St. John the Baptist Parish public schools will remain closed for the rest of the week after devastating storms hit the area Tuesday.

Classes are set to resume on Monday, Feb. 29 according to press release from the school district.

St. Joan of Arc School in LaPlace and St. Peter School in Reserve will reopen on Thursday, according to the office of Catholic schools.

Ascension of Our Lord, 1809 Greenwood Dr., and St. Charles Catholic High School, 100 Dominican Rd., both in LaPlace, will remain closed.

As of Wednesday, power remains out at two campuses and several homes through the parish, according to school district officials. Two of the schools are hosting relief efforts.

“This decision was made to allow for our community to heal, regroup and begin anew on Monday,” Superintendent Kevin George said. “At this point, people are still trying to wrap their heads around what has happened. We would like to give people time to breathe without having to worry every day about whether they have to get their kids to school.”

None of the St. John the Baptist Parish public schools were damaged by the storms on Tuesday.
