NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

A former New Orleans police officer could learn his fate today, for his role in the murder of a fellow officer.

Former officer Wardell Johnson pled guilty in October to obstruction and malfeasance charges brought about after the murder of officer Daryle Holloway.

Johnson faces up to 40 years in prison, after prosecutors say he didn't correctly handle evidence, or properly pat down Travis Boys after his arrest.

Boys is accused of smuggling a pistol into the back of an NOPD squad car and shooting and killing Holloway during an escape.
