Kenner dentist arrested on bank fraud charges

KENNER, LA (WVUE) - A Kenner dentist is under arrest and now faces bank fraud charges.

Kenner Police say they arrested Kirk Ellender, 61, on Thursday.

They say on Jan. 22, Ellender entered the First American Bank, located at 3145 Williams Boulevard in Kenner, and attempted to open a business checking account for his dentistry practice.

A bank employee informed Ellender that he did not have the proper documentation to open a business account, so Ellender elected to open a personal checking account instead. They say he provided the minimum starting deposit of $100.00 to open the account.

Ellender was provided starter checks for the account and within one hour after he entered the First American Bank, investigators say he went to the Regions Bank, located at 3701 Williams Boulevard, Kenner, and deposited a temporary check for $2,100.00 into his account at Regions, then withdrew the money.

Police say Ellender admitted that he intentionally defrauded the bank in order to resolve an issue he was having with a bank involving bad checks.
