NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

Holy Cross came up just short in their goal to achieve a first soccer state title school history, falling 1-0 to St. Thomas More of Lafayette.

This was the first time Holy Cross advanced to the state championship game in the sport.

The Cougars won the Division II final thanks to an 8th minute goal by Josh Toomey, who was unmarked in the box, put away a header easily into the net.

The Tigers of Holy Cross made numerous attempts to equalize the score, but came up short in every attempt. Holy Cross has a good shot at a return trip to the finals in 2016, their roster is littered with underclassmen.
