NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Mount Carmel's flair for the dramatics gave the Cubs their first state title in soccer since 2012.

Forward Hope Hoffman scored with only seconds remaining in Saturday's contest, beating C.E. Byrd out of Shreveport 2-1.

Kat Dehoog hit a rocket shot off the crossbar, Hoffman cleaned up the rebound for the winner. It was Hoffman's second goal of the match.

"I knew I needed to get one in. We've been working so hard all year," said Hope Hoffman. "We've already had two overtime playoff games, we didn't want to go back to overtime. So we needed to finish one. I'm so proud of the team, and how we came through with this. Kat had a great free kick. She tore her ACL, and this was her first game back. She really came through for us."
