Essence Festival announces part of the 2016 lineup: Mariah Carey, Kendrick Lamar will be there

The 2016 ESSENCE Festival has released the first batch of artists set to perform.

The festival is known to bring in some of the biggest names and best performers to the Mercedes Benz Superdome every summer.

"We are welcoming Kendrick Lamar, Mariah Carey and Maxwell to headline the Superdome main stage," said ESSENCE President Michelle Ebanks.

 Newcomers like Leon Bridges, Jeremih, Lion Babe, Def Loaf, and the Internet will also join this year’s lineup.

Charlie Wilson announced to fans on Tuesday via Twitter that this will be his tenth year performing for the ESSENCE Festival.

Other artists confirmed to perform in the Superdome include: BJ The Chicago Kid, Ciara, Cyril Neville, Daley, Digable Planets, Doug E. Fresh, Eric Bellinger, Estelle, Faith Evans, Jidenna, Judith Hill, Kelly Price, Kendrick Lamar, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Lady Leshurr, Lalah Hathaway, Little Simz, Mali Music, MC Lyte, New Breed Brass Band, New Edition, Robert Glasper Experiment, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, St. Beauty, The Brand New Heavies, Tyrese, Tink and V. Bozeman.

Announcements on additional acts will be coming soon.

A new addition this will be the first ever World Music Superlounge featuring artists from across the globe.

The 2016 ESSENCE Festival will be held at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome during the Fourth of July weekend. Tickets are on sale now and available by clicking here.
