Wednesday is National Read Across America Day, also known as Dr. Seuss Day.

Celebrated every year on March 2, the date marks the birthday of late writer and illustrator, Theodor Seuss Geisel, also known as Dr. Seuss.

The National Education Association created an initiative in conjunction with the beloved author's birthday, called the National Education Association’s Read Across America program.

Now in its 19th year, the goal of the program is to encourage children and teenagers to read more, but the organization says adults can also pick up an interesting book on Wednesday, and enjoy.

The First Lady of Louisiana, Donna Edwards, plans to mark the day by reading to elementary students in the state.

According to a press release from the Office of Governor John Bel Edwards, the First Lady will read Dr. Seuss books to students at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, at Cedarcrest Southmoor Elementary School in Baton Rouge.

Afterwards, students at the school will have an opportunity to have their picture taken with Mrs. Edwards.
