THIBODAUX, LA (WVUE) -

A week after blowing an 8-run lead against Lamar, LSU did not take an early lead for granted against Nicholls and eventually finished off the Colonels, 9-4, Wednesday evening in Thibodaux.

The 6th-ranked Tigers scored three in the opening frame but their hosts did not flinch and responded with a run in the bottom of the first. From there, Paul Mainieri's team scored eight unanswered runs with a total of 12 hits, the same as the Colonels. Both teams used a variety of pitchers, with no one throwing more than three innings. The Colonels mounted a late comeback with three runs in their last two at-bats but could not complete the rally.

Both are back at home Friday as LSU hosts Fordham and Nicholls will welcome Abilene Christian to town.
