NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

A New Orleans police officer is being investigated by the Public Integrity Bureau after a narcotics suspect said he was sexually assaulted by an arresting officer.

The incident happened Tuesday near the intersection of Claiborne Ave. and Lesseps St. The NOPD said the accuser was carrying six bags of heroin, 16 pieces of crack cocaine, two Viagra pills, 33 Tramadol pills and $459 in cash.

The Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff's Office contacted PIB about the 28-year-old suspect on Wednesday around 6 p.m. after he said he was assaulted.

Based on the allegation, the sheriff's office brought the man to the hospital where he underwent a sexual assault examination. PIB and the Special Victims Section launched an internal investigation into the allegation. The male officer who is being accused was placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation.

Four officers, including a supervisor, were on the scene of the initial arrest on Tuesday. All four officers were wearing body cameras. That footage is being reviewed.

The NOPD is not naming the suspect or officer because the investigation is ongoing.
