NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers may need to trigger Phase 1 of flooding fighting operations along the Mississippi River next week. According to our partners at Nola.com|The Times-Picayune, Phase 1 could begin as early as Monday because river levels are rising.

The National Weather Service expects the river to rise above 11 feet at the Carrollton Gage by March 4. It expects the river to crest at 13 feet between March 12 and March 14.

Phase 1 of flooding fighting operations includes restricting work on or near local levels. The river is not expected to rise high enough to require another opening of the Bonnet Carre spillway.
