NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

Critics slam actress Zoe Saldana following the trailer release of Nina, an upcoming biopic of late jazz singer Nina Simone. The controversy follows her announcement this week on social media announcing she will play Simone. However, this isn't the first round of criticism for the mother of two.

Simone's daughter, Lisa Simone Kelly has been vocal since Saldana was cast. In 2012, Kelly criticized Saldana - who is of Dominican and Puerto Rican descent - suggesting she was not the best choice.

The production for Nina has had it's share of problems before Saldana agreed. In 2010, singer Mary J. Blige signed on to play Nina, but later dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.

This week Saldana promoted her new film tweeting words from the legendary star, "I'll tell you what freedom is to me - No Fear... I mean really, no fear."

Simone's estate responded, "Cool story but please take Nina's name out your mouth. For the rest of your life."

It's unclear who runs the official Nina Simone page but the estate continued with a series of posts in hopes that people will understand the "painful and gut-wrenching" feeling.

Twitter and Instagram weighed in, saying Saldana's darkened skin is disrespectful to African American women.

The set for April 22nd, will highlight the iconic singer's career and relationship with her former nurse-turned-manager Clifton Henderson, played by David Oyelowo .

Hasselhoff returns to the bay

Brace yourself, the shirts are coming off and ladies you may need CPR.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will star alongside David Hasselhoff in an upcoming Baywatch movie. Johnson confirmed the news in a FaceTime call he shared on Instagram.

"C'mon man rocking the Hoff, I was born ready" Hasselfhoff tells Johnson.

Johnson responds, "There ain't no bay without the Hoff."

In the caption, Johnson says Hasselhoff "has been our greatest supporter" adding that he's "in the best shape."

There's no information on what role Hasselhoff will play in the new movie. The original television show ran from 1989 to 2001, with "Hoff" appearing in every season. The video has received over 300,000 likes on Instagram.

"The Rock" describes the film as a mix between Avengers and Anchorman.

 Baywatch hits theaters in 2017.

Britney flaunts figure

Britney Spears reminds us she's still one of the hottest in the business on the spring cover of V Magazine's 100th issue.

Celebrating the milestone, the Toxic singer graces three different covers in an all black one piece paired with knee-high tights.

One cover shows Spears by herself, while the other two show her resting her head on a man's very toned leg. Spears has our full attention.

Spears has been nothing short of busy as she continues her Las Vegas residency. The 34-year old is slaying the stage and magazine covers all while working on her ninth studio album.
