NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

A sword-wielding man fended off an alleged burglar after an argument over money inside the victim's Treme home.

Just before 10 a.m., the victim flagged down a New Orleans police officer near the intersection of Claiborne Ave. and Esplanade Ave. He said someone entered his home in the 1700 block of Bayou Rd.

Officers went to the location and found the suspect, Jeffrey Lewis, 42, still on the scene.

Investigators said Lewis knocked on the victim's door earlier in the morning. When no one answered, he went inside and met with the victim, who is an acquaintance, and his girlfriend. The pair began arguing over money that Lewis said the victim owed him.

The victim pulled out a sword and told Lewis to leave the home. He then escorted Lewis outside of the home and down the street where he flagged down an officer.

Lewis was issued a summons for one count of criminal trespassing.
