NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Cameras were rolling when two girls, both McDonogh 35 students, got into a brutal fight last week.

According to our partners at NOLA.com | The Times Picayune, the video shows a female student walk up to another female student outside of the school gym and punch her multiple times.

“This thing here is the most dangerous thing in the world right now. No one had privacy. If you do anything outside of your home, maybe even inside your home, you can expect someone to record it in some way,” FOX 8 legal analyst Joe Raspanti said.

On March 2, the day of the fight, someone posted the video to Twitter. It shows a woman, reportedly a teacher, trying to break up the fight. About 28 seconds into the video, the woman appears to strike one of the two students while trying to separate them.

According to the NOPD, the mother of one of the girls filed a police report the day after the fight, prompting a police investigation.

“I’m not saying you should charge the children, because when I grew up, that happened a lot, but what also happened a lot was teachers did what they had to do, and they didn’t have to be breaking up a fight,” Raspanti said.

Raspanti said while it’s unclear why a police report was filed, he doesn’t believe the teacher breaking up the fight will be prosecuted.

“It seems like that teacher in the picture was just doing anything and everything she could to stop those two from hurting each other. I can’t imagine anyone would prosecute for that, arrest for that or find anyone guilty of battery,” he said.

The NOPD has classified the incident as a disturbance. Orleans Parish School Superintendent Dr. Henderson Lewis told FOX 8 that the incident has serious implications for those involved. He said both school officials and the Orleans Parish School Board took immediate action, but would not elaborate.

He did say an internal investigation is underway.
