Heavy rains, winds expected Wednesday night through Saturday

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

The next few days are shaping up to be very rainy. Winds have picked up throughout the day today with sustained winds of 15-25 mph and gusts over 30 mph at times.

Only a few stray showers are expected for Tuesday evening north of the lake. High temperatures have risen well into the 70's with some locations near 80 degrees. Tonight, low temperatures will only fall to the mid to upper 60's on both sides of the lake.

Wednesday, a powerful low pressure area will move closer to Southeast Louisiana and bring a better chance for rain and storms. A few isolated severe storms are possible Wednesday as well.

The heaviest rain will likely impact our area on Thursday and into at least the early part of Friday. It is too early to give exact rainfall amounts, but parts of our area could see a flood risk. Now is the time to start paying attention as we get into Wednesday through Friday.

Drier weather is expected to gradually take over by the weekend. Mild to warm temperatures look to continue well into next week.
