NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Still in the first week of LSU spring football, it’s no surprise that new defensive coordinator Dave Aranda’s drawing the most attention. Regarded as one of the top up-and-coming young coordinators in college football, he’s tasked with turning around a Tigers defense that had a mediocre 2015 season.

LSU Head Coach Les Miles says the strength of Aranda’s system is the ability to adapt to many situations.

“His base lines are in a four down personnel,” says Miles. “We have the ability to change it in a variety of ways, and it’s really systematic. I think you’ll find we have the opportunity to gang up on opponents’ formations.”

With some of the team’s best athletes, like sophomore Arden Key, on the defensive line, it should be fun to watch the different ways the Tigers get after opposing quarterbacks.

“You’ll enjoy it,” says Miles. “Through 15 practices, I don’t know that we’ll get to see all of it, but we’ll certainly get to see a piece of it.”

LSU concludes spring football with their spring game on April 16.
