A 24-year old man was killed after his pickup truck veered into incoming traffic on Interstate 55 in Hammond.  Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to the three-vehicle crash around 6:30 PM on Wednesday March 9, 2016.  The accident claimed the life of 24 year-old Eduardo Munoz-lachino from Tickfaw, LA.

Crash scene investigators determined Munoz-lachino was driving a 2007 Dodge Pickup southbound on Interstate 55.  For reasons still under investigation, his truck veered off the road, entered into the center median, then crossed into the northbound travel lanes.  After crossing over, Munoz-lachino’s truck crashed into the left front of a 2014 Acura SUV driven by 63 year-old Walter E Shockley of Springfield, LA.  Munoz-lachino’s truck then continued southbound in the northbound lanes before crashing head-on into a 2016 Volvo 18-Wheeler driven by 60 year-old Mobile, AL resident, John Dewan McKeller.

State Police say Munoz-lachino was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.  He was pronounced dead on the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office.   Troopers say Shockley and McKeller were both properly restrained.  Both drivers were treated and released for minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.  Blood samples have been obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
