NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

UNO trailed by six runs at two different times in the contest against Tulane last night, but the Privateers "never say die" attitude helped them pull a heroic comeback on the Lakefront.

"Our whole thing this whole year is listen. If you get punched in the mouth, which they punched us in the mouth," said UNO Head Baseball Coach Blake Dean. "Our pitching staff has to stop the beating, and then they got to give our hitters a chance to get going, chip back. That's exactly what those guys did. They chipped away, they chipped away, and they finally had some success coming toward the latter innings."

Last season UNO finished with a paltry 14-40 record. 13 games into the 2016 campaign, wow what a turnaround, a Louisiana best 11-2. It's still early in the season, but Coach Dean isn't trying to quell the players excitement.

"I just let them do their thing right now. They've never experienced this type of winning atmosphere. If it comes to an abrupt halt tomorrow, I would still be extremely happy what they have done. They're learning, continuing to improve, they're confidence is growing. The energy level they're bringing every day is growing. For now I don't tell them anything. I let them chant, cheer, rave, I let them do their thing. Because this is all new to some of those guys, and it's becoming contagious for them," said Dean.

The second season starts tomorrow night for Blake Dean and his squad. Conference play begins when they welcome Sam Houston State for a three-game series.
