NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

Major flooding is already occurring on the North Shore particularly in Tangipahoa Parish where around 100 people had to be rescued overnight.

The ongoing rain event dumped as much as 12 inches of rain in that area by early Friday morning and the rain continues.

Bands of showers and thunderstorms continue to push through the area and will continue to push through during the day Friday into Saturday.

A large upper low is pushing tons of moisture across the region and allowing smaller disturbances to circulate around the low developing bands of heavy rain with imbedded thunderstorms.

We will still see heavy rain continuing into Saturday morning.

The slow moving low will finally move on late Saturday and we should see improving conditions.  Sunday should be nice with just some clouds and highs rebounding to near 80 degrees.
