NWS: Pearl River expected to crest at 21 ft Monday

ST. TAMMANY PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

The Pearl River is expected to crest at 21 feet Monday in St. Tammany Parish.

The National Weather Service measured the river at 17.9 feet by Pearl River Sunday at 9 a.m. The flood stage for that area is 14 feet.

Here is a NWS breakdown of how the flood waters may spread as the river rises.

At 18 Feet

The River Gardens Subdivision will be moderately flooded with several streets rendered impassable and a few homes near Gum Bayou flooded. Homes will also be threatened in Magnolia forest.

Secondary Roads to the river and throughout Honey Island Swamp will be inundated.

At 19 Feet

There ill be major flooding in Riiver Gardens and moderate flooding in the lower portions of the Magnolia Forest subdivision. Subdivision south of I-10 and east Military Road will be threatened with flooring.

The Indian Village Access road to River Oaks Subdivision will be under water in several places.

At 20 Feet

Water will cover portions of I-10 east of Slidell. Sections of subdivisions along Military Road south to I-10 at elevations below 11 feet mean sea level will flood.

There will be major flooding of River Gardens and moderate flooding of lower portions in Magnolia Forest. The Indian Village Road access to River Oaks Subdivision will be underwater in several places.

At 21 Feet

Flooding will extend east to Mississippi Highway 604. Low lying areas of Pearlington will flood. The southwest corner of the Stennis Space Center will flood.

Major flooding will occur below 14 feet mean sea level along and east of Military Road from the I-59 interchange south to Highway 109.

Water will cover portions of I-10 east of Slidell and the roadway may close.
