Southern basketball goes "dancing" for the first time since 2013

BATON ROUGE, LA (WVUE) -

Southern basketball will take on Holy Cross in a "First Four" matchup of the NCAA Tournament. The announcement was made Sunday evening. The game will take place Wednesday night in Dayton, OH at 5:40 p.m.

Southern booked their bid into the tourney, by winning the SWAC Tournament. The Jaguars beat Jackson State 54-53. Southern heads into the tournament with a record of 22-12.

Holy Cross is was named to the tournament after winning the Patriot League Tourney in shocking fashion. The Crusaders won four consecutive road games in the tournament after going 0-9 on the road in conference play during the regular season. Holy Cross is the 20th team to earn a spot in the NCAA tournament with a losing record (14-19), since the field expanded to 64 teams in 1985. 

The winner will play 1-seed Oregon in Spokane, WA.
