Tulane Sweeps Furman

(WVUE) -

Tulane baseball picked up its second sweep in as many weekends, as Emerson Gibbs held the Furman Paladins to just two hits in a complete-game shutout in an 8-0 win on Sunday at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.

The Greenies took an early lead on the Paladins when Cade Edwards brought Jarret DeHart home on a groundout in the bottom of the third. Gibbs held the Paladins in check, striking out nine and walking just one, while the Green Wave bats piled on runs later in the game.

Grant Witherspoon hit his first-career homer in the fourth, followed by two home runs in the sixth by Hunter Hope and Matt Braud.

But, the day belonged to Gibbs. Picking up his first career complete game. Even his head coach was impressed.
“Emerson Gibbs was Emerson Gibbs today. He has so much pride, and he was just great with three pitches. He was just outstanding. There were a lot of good things happening, especially at home plate. We continued to get good pitches to hit, and we were ready when we got them. It was a game of two firsts with home runs by Grant Witherspoon and Matt Braud. It was just a great day all around," said David Pierce.

The Green Wave will travel down to the bayou on Tuesday, March 15 for a 6:00 p.m. CT tilt against Nicholls State at Ray E. Didier Field.
