NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

One practice in the books for Tulane spring football, and all seems to be progressing nicely, according to Head Coach Willie Fritz. The two-hour session was filled with instruction, and a feeling out period.

"We can be better, and I'm going to work on that as well. I like our guys being positive, I like our guys being enthusiastic. I think you can accomplish great things when you do those two things," said Willie Fritz.

Up-downs were very routine in the first day or work, and why not, the Wave finished a disappointing 3-9 last season.

"You know I only do five of them. If I was really trying to wear them out I would do 30 of them, 40 of them," Fritz said. "I just want them to know, gosh darn it I goofed up on that. I didn't hand the ball to the official, I threw the ball at the official. I had bad ball security, whatever it is. Five as a quick reminder, then we move on."

With the two-year starter Tanner Lee transferring out of the program, the biggest hole for the Wave is at the quarterback spot. Three guys look to be vying for the signal-caller opening. Senior Devin Powell, Mandeville alum Glenn Cuiellette, and true freshman Darius Bradwell.

"I just kind of orchestrate the whole practice so it's hard for me to evaluate a specific group position," Fritz said. "I saw some good things, balls thrown accurately, but I saw too many balls on the ground. All the positions are important, we're gonna go ahead and monitor them, just like we do everybody."

Fritz stressed, don't read too much into who gets those first snaps in the spring. In the fall the depth chart will work itself out.
