Raceland man has been arrested for passing fake $20 bills

RACELAND, LA (WVUE) -

A Raceland man has been arrested for passing fake $20 bills, according to Lafourche Parish sheriff’s reports.

Lawrence Gray, Jr., 64, of Raceland is charged with monetary instrument abuse.

Deputies were called to a convenience store on LA Highway 1 in reference to a man attempting to use counterfeit money.

When they arrived, deputies learned the man, later identified as Gray, tried to make a purchase using a fake $20 bill.

When the cashier told him the bill was fake, Gray paid with an real $20 bill and left the store.

Deputies later spotted Gray driving on Ayo Street. When questioned about the incident, Gray admitted to his involvement.

Deputies also recovered nine counterfeit $20 bills in Gray’s possession had on his person.

Gray was arrested and taken to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. His bond is set at $20,000.
