GRAND ISLE, LA (WVUE) -

An undercover sting operation has resulted in the arrest of dozens people in Grand Isle. (See charges here.)

Initially 21 people were arrested on a variety of drug violations including members of the fire department, including the Fire Chief.

Phase 2 of the investigation ended in December of 2015 after deputies executed search warrants and even boarded fishing vessels.

Officers made 25 felony arrests.

A third phase of the investigation started in January of this year.

During an undercover sting, agents made 37 undercover drug buys. Those drugs included were meth, cocaine and marijuana.

As a result, Jefferson Parish grand jury indicted 18 additional people.

Right now four of those people are still wanted.

During the course of the investigation, the sheriff says agents uncovered allegations of suspected improper operations in the Grand isle police department. A search warrant was executed and the sheriff says they found the improper handling of evidence and money.

The sheriff says he does not know if the chief or his officers have done anything criminal, so the investigation at this point continues.
