SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) -

After drenching rain and rising water, the Indian Village subdivision off Hwy. 190 in Slidell is still only accessible by boat and high-water vehicles.

Officials were watching water levels Wednesday in the area that have stranded dozens of families in their homes.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office made several water rescues using large, five-ton vehicles to get to people who are flooded in.

Deputies said they have seen the water levels "breathe," meaning the level is going up and down, but the Pearl River is beginning to drop in this area.

Some of the homes took on water, but most survived any significant flooding. So the major problem is that the roads are just impassable.
